Alpecin-Deceuninck have one of the very best sprint trains in the peleton and that could be key with today’s finish. It’s possible, although not certain, that sprinters like WVA, Groenewegen and Cavendish might either not make the finale due to the amount of climbing in the stage, or as might be the case with WVA, not enough of it near the finish to allow him to beat the “pure” sprinters. Either way everything looks alighned for Philipsen to make a very bold bid at the stage. With his leadout man, argubaly the strongest of them all – van der Poel, sitting up yesterday seemingly looking to save his legs for today, that can only be a good sign for the team’s chances today.
